Sodom and Gomorrah were buried in a fire of ash and Brimstone (sulphur).

Fire, ash and sulphur are good suggestions of what happened to them - it suggests that they might have been in an area that had a volcano nearby. This could also explain why we haven't been able to find any physical evidence of them yet...

@HootyTheNightOwl The cities have burned bones and sulfur as evidence of the cities completely burned up. Abraham asked if there is anyone Godly will you burn the cities down and God said if there are Godly people there I will [b]not[/b] burn them down. He asked the Godly to leave and then He burned them down to ash. It is there now to witness for anyone to see.
