Are religious people really less smart, on average, than atheists? [Spirituality & Religion]

It鈥檚 a question with some urgency, the proportion of people with a religious belief is growing: by 2050, if current trends continue, people who say they are not religious will make up only 13 per cent of the global population. Based on the low-IQ-religiosity link, it could be argued that humanity is on course to become collectively less smart. Its said that atheists surpass religious individuals in terms of reasoning but not working-memory performance. The religiosity effect is robust across馃

Let's not go there, and you can forget those unreliable PEW projections too. It can now be perfectly reasoned that nature alone provides eternal life. This is the future of belief, and it represents a new order of religion: magic-free.

@Success Interesting indeed. One suggestion is that perhaps religious people tend to rely more on intuition. So, rather than having impaired general intelligence, they might be comparatively poor only on tasks in which intuition and logic come into conflict and this might explain the lower overall IQ test results

@suchaslife What gives us the right to judge the intelligence of people, or their person, whether religious or not, at all? That would seem quite arrogant of us.

Theres a huge difference between religion and God. Anyone can be "religious" but do they actually know God, is the question. Even Satan believes in God, yet he's not going to make heaven, and he is extremely intelligent. Religion has nothing whatsoever to do with intelligence. Religion did not die on the cross for our sins. Jesus did. That's what makes it a personal relationship between God and ourselves.

@LadyGrace Agreed馃

@Success How does nature alone provide eternal life? Nature is "things"....with no brains.

@Success Then why do people die if nature provides eternal life? We should never die, if that is the case. Sin brings death with it. Physically and spiritually.
