馃檭 Haha, why not. Plus your corpse gets to be eaten by wild animals, always a plus
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@Axelerator that's not really a requirement actually and it depends on what form of Zoroastrianism you follow. I follow the Gathas, not the Vendidad which is a much later invention not made by Zarathustra.
Miram31-35, F
@basilfawlty89 Those are just parts of the avesta.

Your corpse doesn't get to be eaten by animals in any of them. They have sky burial as a ritual.

Why did you decide to join?
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@Miram They are, but a large part of the Iranian Zoroastrians and Kurdish Zoroastrians only follow the Gathas, or reject the Vendidad but believe the rest of the Avesta.

It just speaks to me, the idea of a unifying force of order, creation, precision, love and wisdom vs it's opposite. A God that doesn't allow or create evil. The values as well are what I agree with and the Zoroastrian version of God is the same way I view God.
Miram31-35, F
@basilfawlty89 ew, I take my comment back. It looks like animal feeding on the corpses do exist in other chapters.

That idea kind of exists in lot of parts of other religions.

How is the existence of chaos explained in the Gathas?
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@Miram the opposite spirit, Angra Mainyu or Ahriman. In the beginning came both of them, eventually Ahura Mazda or God will triumph over Ahriman when the Frashokereti happens, when the world will be remade.

@basilfawlty89 tell the good or the bad, whichever you prefer, to stop messing around and help me out some time, alright?

So it's dual, like Taoism. But non-complimentary, conflicting and there is an awareness like Hinduism.
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@Miram yes, it's related to Hinduism, by way they share ancestors by way of the Aryans.
Miram31-35, F
@basilfawlty89 I meant the first sentence, do it, in a nicer tone of course. ^^

@Axelerator To be honest it wouldn't be that bad to have your body go to animals after you naturally die. I believe I heard something like cemeteries are bad for the environment and other things. I think the body decays and goes back because everything is recycled into something usable for a reason.
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@SatanBurger most Zoroastrians don't use the towers of silence anymore, and it's not really a requirement in the Gathas.
SatanBurger36-40, F
@basilfawlty89 I'm unfamiliar with it so I don't know what the tower of silence is. I'm just saying that my body being eaten by animals provided I died naturally doesn't really bother me. I heard some bad things about cemeteries anyways related to that subject of why I'd look into alternatives.
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@SatanBurger the tower of silence is where human bodies are left out in the open to be fed on by carrion birds, as per some Zoroastrian traditions.
SatanBurger36-40, F
@basilfawlty89 Like the original comment from Accelerator hinted like it would be a bad thing, though not saying that's what they were implying.

There's also a tree burial where you can either get a small capsule with your ashes or your body enclosed in a biodegradable pod and then they plant a tree. Your body helps the tree grow. Pretty sweet actually.

@basilfawlty89 Thanks, I'll have to look into this religion more because I'm interested
