It was terrible what evil we are capable of as humans and those murders were very evil. God pleaded with Israel a long time to return to Him. He blesses those who love Him and answers their prayers, not those who don't. They had left God and God told them they would be scattered all over the world and some people would hate them, but they would be gathered again to their own land in the last days before He returns. I will add those verses to this in a minute.
