What has value? What should I do today? [Spirituality & Religion]

What matters?

I could sit indoors all day does it really matter?

should I try live a "happier", more eventful life?

I should try to help my situation as best I can, even if that happens to be staying indoors.

I can't see much opportunity for "reward" around me, not unless I become senselessly extroverted. None of this matters.

The only thing I see value in is playing the lottery. Imagine just having £1 mill in your bank account. suddenly your life goes from mundane/pointless to... everything you want, no work, hedonism every day, go wherever you want, buy anything you want...
What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his own soul? We are not to be sluggards, but work and earn what we have. Jesus said to learn by example of ants. Even the ants are not sluggards. They work mightily for all they have and are rewarded greatly.
Things matter-- have value-- because you give them value.

One could make some arguments, on philosophical, scientific, or religious grounds-- that certain things have intrinsic value. But still one needs to face, acknowledge, and accept that value.

In the end choices are largely irrelevant if one has no values guiding them. And having values is also irrelevant if they don't inform decisions and choices. Just "having" values is pretty pointless. What? collect them?

Having a lot of money seems significant-- until it is gone, or one faces tragedy or death. So we're back to values again...
