How often do you debate religion in real life? [Spirituality & Religion]

I have had quite a few debates online, but in real life people around me never discuss it.

I used to end up in religious debates a lot in High School, but I rarely started them. It's just a natural consequence of coming out as an atheist in the right-wing religious dystopia that is western PA. I usually lost them because they frequently got upset and it was difficult to try and deal with their emotions while refuting wildly fallacious arguments.

@BlueVeins Kudos for your courage. I come from a very secular background, so I cannot imagine how hard it was for you to expose your wildly different viewpoints

@sumojumo Thanks. I did keep it secret for a few years, but I just got tired of lying I guess. Not sure if it helped anyone in any way, but it at least wasn't as hard.

@BlueVeins That's usually how it is, you don't really start religious debates, people just come to you because they have a problem. You don't even need to be atheist either for a monotheist to have a problem with another monotheist, it just happens naturally.

@BlueVeins And I been friends with Christians before but you're right, lying doesn't really work. You get tired of it eventually, even if you're doing it for good reasons. Like I was friends with this older lady at work who was heavily Christian, she was nice for awhile until she started openly praying. I didn't have a problem with that but she tried to force me to say things like God is great and reciting bible verses and stuff.

I just wasn't feeling it, it's hard to really be friends with someone, it's like a vegan trying to date a meat eater or something 🤣
