How often do you debate religion in real life? [Spirituality & Religion]

I have had quite a few debates online, but in real life people around me never discuss it.

I never debate religion in rl, because I don’t bring it up and I shut the conversation down if a stranger comes at me trying to proselytize. People who know me, don’t.

@bijouxbroussard of course, I do not mean proselytizing, but an informed exchange of dofferent points of view. The beliefs someone has, why the beliefs are there, how someone is confident is them. So about the basic questions of life.
@sumojumo Life, maybe. Religion, no. I don’t need to know what mythology someone follows.

@bijouxbroussard some people find answers for life in their mythology. And they also make life decisions based on this mythology. That is why I find it very influential. But of course I understand and respect what you mean. These debates are not exactly something that most people would find "entertaining".
@sumojumo I get it. But the problem I’ve found with life discussions that involve the very devout and religion is that they leave very little room for any other perspective. I had a conversation with someone I like; even archeological history becomes obscured for him if the timeline coincides with his understanding of what was mentioned in the Bible. He accepts the Bible as a literal account of the times.

@bijouxbroussard I see, that is the unfortunate reality
