How often do you debate religion in real life? [Spirituality & Religion]

I have had quite a few debates online, but in real life people around me never discuss it.

@Dejavu Because you do not want, or there is nobody that wants to?

@sumojumo It's pointless. Religion is not based on facts it's based on faith. You cannot win an argument using the tangible based on the intangible. Nor can you argue the hypothetical with another hypothetical..well, you can but there will never be a winner. So I just listen, and go on about my way.

@Dejavu that is also a good tactics :). But i think it is not completely pointless. I think most of the people are more rational than they think. Someone just needs to push them a little bit. Have you heard of Street Epistemology?

I scanned thru it. I sort of used an abridged version before I ever knew what it was. Once I encountered some Mormons that were selling me their goods and I asked them about a situation that happened the night before where a guy walks into a church, sits for an hour with a prayer study group and then guns them all down. I asked them according to their religion 'if that guy accepts their god as his lord and savior and truly repents he goes to heaven right?' Then I asked if one of the people that was gunned down was their mom would they be okay with the murderer being in heaven with their mom. The rookie automatically said 'no' and was cut off by the more experienced one that said he'd be cool with forgiving the guy because of his faith. And that my friend is why I will never debate religion.

Very nicely put. I can see and respect your point. I would see the guy as a horrible victim of religion. He had to kill his humanity to respond that way
