We have an illusion of it. Some people have a larger chunk of that illusion because of their place in society and social ladders. But we're all controlled by something. And that takes away free will.

@SW-User We have rebellion though
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@SW-User well, obviously there are limitations to free will, but some people in determinism or fatalism that says we have no free will at all.
SW-User
@Quizzical Where does this rebellion go though? Who really pulls the strings? What agendas?
More often than not it is a facade.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@SW-User Personal rebellion I mean
SW-User
@basilfawlty89 Well, those are extremists. People who want to die because their favourite movie didn't do well ... kind of people. That is a psychology issue.
SW-User
@Quizzical 😂 Eh. Who cares if we throw tantrums at home? We still have to abide by what we are dictated by.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@SW-User I'd personally say I believe balanced view, we have some free will, but we also have nature's that we won't normally act out of.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@SW-User We don't actually. We can throw off our programming, we have the will to do so. We just fear the consequences.
SW-User
@basilfawlty89 Free will would mean doing whatever we want, whenever, however, without any consideration of consequences. On that basis, I think it is an illusion. But there is some free will we exercise, within the boundaries. We adjust to those boundaries. And that is what makes it an illusion to me.
SW-User
@Quizzical And that fear of consequence is real. Lol. Which is our boundary.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@SW-User But fears can be overcome, and boundaries can be broken.

We only allow ourselves to be constrained, and as we allow it we are the ones with the free will and self-determination.
SW-User
@Quizzical Dunno man. Some things I want to do will land me in jail. 😂
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@SW-User But you could still do them if it were not for your fear of punishment... You COULD do them if you thought you would get away with it.
SW-User
@Quizzical Hence, I do not have free will. Because that is how society works. I cannot just go do any old thing I want.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@SW-User No, you have the free will.. The only thing stopping you is yourself really, and that is also an exercise of your own will
SW-User
@Quizzical What stops me is not wanting to be in prison, and also not to taint my morality. So..I think we can disagree on this.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@SW-User Well, you have the right to be wrong I guess 😏
SW-User
@Quizzical You have the right to be arrogant. Look, free will. 😂
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@SW-User Which proves I am right! Muwahahahaha!
SW-User
@Quizzical No. But I have no problem stroking your mighty ego. 😂 Don't even take your mind anywhere else.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@SW-User But my free will allows me to take my mind EXACTLY where you don't want me to, lol :p
