Notre Dame, priez pour nous [Spirituality & Religion]

“After Parisians watched her burn, rosaries in hand last evening, they awoke this morning to find the old Cathedral miraculously still standing, the Crown of Thorns rescued, the famous rose windows, pieta and organ saved. The Godless world had looked on in horror as one of Catholicism's most important symbols went up in smoke and, incredibly, they wept.

Why? Could it be that the Catholic Faith, also in flames, is nevertheless still something modern men instinctively know the world cannot live without, even though so many have abandoned it? If Notre Dame in flames was a metaphor for the modern Church in flames, is the promise to rebuild not also a metaphor for what's to come.” ~ Michael Matt [c=#BF0000]https://tinyurl.com/y5dypnjr[/c]
Could it be that the Catholic Faith, also in flames ...
The Catholic faith has been in flames since day one :) ... yet it survives and thrives. Jesus was crucified with the help of one of his chosen apostles who betrayed him. Others denied him and may well have deserted had he not reeled them in. For the two thousand years that followed, there was always scandal, infighting, political corruption and greed that could have knocked the church off its rails for good. But it didn't. There was always someone, someones, something that righted the ship, until the next scandal, the next betrayal.

Besides being the house of God, the church is also a human institution, left in the hands of people who may or may not have the purest intent. Nothing new there. How many human institutions last 100 years? 1,000 years? ... 2,000 years? Wow! How has the church survived 2,000 years???? Hmm?? Maybe with the help of a few good people along the way? Maybe it has a solid foundation and just the top-side needs to be fixed every now and then? Ok, extinguish the flames, check the foundation and rebuild bigger and better.

Je prie pour qu'on aille rebâtir ce beau monument
@Pieter66 Do people really get as worked up over a civic monument as it appears the praying hymn-singing Parisians did? And this over a Catholic Church in the land of Laïcité?
