Should religion be banned? [Spirituality & Religion]

With all the fighting and purging in the name of religion....is religion causing more harm than good? And should it be banned?

No, banning religion isn’t the answer. That simply makes martyrs, as it has in times past. But keeping it separate from law, not allowing religious beliefs to dictate laws that affect people who are not bound by religious doctrine, is the way to keep things fair to everyone. A clear, well-defined separation between church (or synagogue, or temple) and state.

@bijouxbroussard I agree.... But it needs written into the Constitution. As the Muslim population grows and with many of these Muslims coming from places where the religious laws are government sanctioned....we need to make sure there are safeties in place
@Mongoheadmonster It also needs to be written into law so that fundamentalist Christians can’t rob citizens of their rights as well. I don’t know if you’re aware of various “Freedom of religion” statutes that have popped up all over the country, but especially in the south and Midwest, spelling out that businesses can refuse to provide services based upon religious beliefs. Someone refusing to bake a cake for a gay couple is one thing, but companies refusing to include contraception in the healthcare packages of their employees, is another, and the proposal that doctors, attorneys, police, firefighters, etc., should have similar latitude based upon religious belief is when it becomes truly frightening. These people are already here and fully supported by the current administration.

@bijouxbroussard....well then maybe banning all religion isn't such a stupid idea then

@bijouxbroussard if the children can't play nice, then maybe they shouldn't be allowed to play that game anymore
