With all the fighting and purging in the name of religion....is religion causing more harm than good? And should it be banned?

You can't ban it. It's far to pervasive. Yet I really like to get it out of government at least. Although good number of the laws on the books are mostly based on religion. Like all the marriage laws and tax codes.

@DeWayfarer... I agree, but here's the problem. When you allow people in from places where their religious beliefs dictate how their government ran back in their original countries. How can they be expected to fit in, in a place where it isn't like that. Sharia law for example?

@Mongoheadmonster Simple, deny full citizenship until they renounce those governmental effecting laws. For instance the right to vote. Or the right to hold office.

@Mongoheadmonster Ohhh you're one of those. I was going to comment but I'm glad I didn't waste my time:

@SatanBurger the major difference between Christian based countries and hardline Islamic countries....the Islamic ones, the government carries out discipline action based on religion. Stoning for instance some countries including Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Iran, Somalia, Yemen and some predominantly Muslim states in northern Nigeria as punishment. This is modern day

@Mongoheadmonster Yeah speaking of modern day, evangelist Christians from America and in Africa lead the charge of human rights abuses against children accused of being witches. There's a whole village of women in Kenya who banned together after they lost their homes due to being accused.

Evangelists encouraging anti gay bigotry:

@SatanBurger so back to my question...should religion be banned??
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@Mongoheadmonster No, all banning does is create martyrs. It's best to have a true secular nation, make religion illegal through government only but people still have a right to assemble. Like I believe we shouldn't even have in god we trust on money but it should be changed to in people we trust.

At the same time, the government needs to do more to have safe havens in case of religious abuse in closed off households.

@SatanBurger I agree with a lot of what you say, yet I do not believe it is enough. Yes banning doesn't make sense, yet without some way to limit religion those of zealous beliefs will get into office and therefore attempt to change the laws more towards their religious beliefs. Also in democracy one group of religious people can vote for candidates that are aligned towards their own beliefs. All it would take is a majority. This is the situation we in the U.S. are in today. And why there has never been a none- Christian president. Just look at the uproar that was made when some thought Obama was a Muslim even though it was not true.

@DeWayfarer You are right, it's partially one of the major pitfalls of a democratic society is that we are often held hostage by a majority.

This is what some are warning us about. I forget what it's called but it's a non hostile takeover. Slowly building numbers up until they can put their own people in charge....
