A rabbi once explained that the Jewish Kosher food laws had to do with 'normal' Since most cloven hoofed animals chew their cud. However pigs have cloven hooves but they don't chew their cuds so the are 'unclean' A fish has fins and swim. Shell fish do not so they are unclean.
