Why Is It So Hard? [Spirituality & Religion]

Why is it so hard for skeptics to believe that Yahweh, the God who lives forever, is God? What's the big deal?

Maybe some of us don't think that a God that prescribes the death penalty can be real. Or at least we'd hope not.
@Bushranger Death itself makes a better God as it always keeps its promises.

@canusernamebemyusername Or old age. Like the story of Thor fighting the old hag in the giant's hall.
@Bushranger I remember that one from a long time ago.

@canusernamebemyusername Great story about Loki and Thor being tested to see if the Aesir were greater than the giants. Love the Norse legends.
@Bushranger Me too but haven't read them for a long time.

@canusernamebemyusername I found a podcast of Norse legends. Great to listen to while I'm mucking about in the yard.
@Bushranger Neat. I have a book of them but it is in a pile of books atm. Lol

@canusernamebemyusername I know that feeling. I'm even double depth on my bookshelves lol. Started getting into ebooks because they don't take up as much room lol.
@Bushranger Same. I have around 400-500 actual books and about that many ebooks now. Lol

@canusernamebemyusername I'll have to do a count of my physical books some time. Would be in the hundreds, though. Gotta love a real book.
@Bushranger Yessss! Also easier on the eyes. But I have gotten used to ebooks now too.

@canusernamebemyusername What I love about ebooks is that I can carry stacks of books on my phone. Great for when I'm travelling.
@Bushranger True. That way I will always have something to read and never get bored.

How would you handle sin in man? What justice would you administer to the atrocities that men commit on one another? How will you let mankind know that your serious about the sin in its life?
@GodSpeed63 Not create sin to begin with.

@GodSpeed63 The reply by @canusernamebemyusername is pretty good, maybe I don't need to say much more lol.

So you believe in the death penalty, I take it. With the exception of stopping that particular individual from killing again, it has been proved to not work as a truly effective general deterrent. While punishment does have some effect, early intervention programs and community based programs would be more efficacious and cost effective.
@Bushranger In addition he could have only made those that would love him since he is all knowing. He could over ride free will. Which the Bible says we dont have anyway. So yeah there are multiple ways to do it.But I thought what I put was the simplest way to do it.

Just as a matter of interest, I checked the intentional homicide rates for three countries, the US, UK and Australia for the year 2016. They are all first world, English speaking countries but the US is the only one that still has capital punishment for homicide. Australia has a homicide rate of 0.94/100,000, the Uk 1.20/100,000 and the US 5.35/100,000. Seems that capital punishment works well to stop homicide, not.

@GodSpeed63 Still not willing to discuss this?

What's your solution then?

If it's about that subject, you were the one not willing to discuss it.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@GodSpeed63 Well, I did mention a couple of options. But it doesn't detract from my original statement that God prescribed the death penalty. If you look at some of the things that could be punished by death, it seems that your God was not very loving or forgiving. I mean to say, being able to have your son put to death for being disrespectful and lazy, heresy being a capital offence? Can you seriously defend this?
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@GodSpeed63 I think I get where you are coming from with this. I said that I wasn't willing to discuss that subject on that particular thread. When you suggested opening it up again on another thread, I agreed to have the discussion. You subsequently bailed.

But any reasonable person would understand that I was referring to a discussion of the material in this thread.
