Is our spirit and soul, the same thing? Many are confused on this, lately. [Spirituality & Religion]
Scripture clearly teaches that God created human beings with three parts—a spirit, soul, and body—and their corresponding functions. Man was intended to experience a close relationship with God, and therefore, He created us as a unity of both material (physical) and immaterial (spiritual) aspects (Ecclesiastes 12:7, Matthew 10:28, 1 Corinthians 5:5, 2 Corinthians 4:16; 7:1, James 2:26).
1 Thessalonians 5:23 “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
OUR BODY
Our body, of course, allows us to interact with the physical world and the things in it, through our five senses.
When we accept Jesus as our Savior, his Holy Spirit comes to live within us:
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
Then when we die, our body lies in the grave, until the resurrection of them, when Jesus comes back:
John 5:28-29 “Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.”
OUR SOUL
So what about our soul? Our soul is basically who we are—our mind, our emotion, and our will.
Deuteronomy 6:5 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
Matthew 16:26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
Luke 1:46-47 And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
OUR SPIRIT
The function of our spirit, on the other hand, is to contact and receive God, Himself. Once we receive the Lord into our spirit by believing in Him, we can live our human lives in continuous contact with the Lord by using our spirit.
Our Spirit Returns to God:
And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7
The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” Psalm 14:1
John 14:1-3 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

I'd have to refer to a whole lot of literature but in short...this emotional and intellectual aspect is what we call the Buddhi ....it's not just the mind but it also has the will...the determinative faculty...and the word you used here for it is 'soul' which is not the same usage in any Occidental religions of spirituality....what is soul is one...and further delineating to understand what soul is, it is usually demarcated as universal vs individual soul...the Atman and Brahman, which is essence is one. Soul is one and different from matter and this basic fundamental teaching underlies all religions, even implicitly when the Christian sage says, ' we are all strangers and pilgrims here on earth. There's no abiding place here'...This soul in its purest essence realising itself as it is is what you call - 'peace that passeth all understanding'.
I’m strictly going by what God said in His Word. He is incapable of lying, as He is perfect. I can rely on His description. You may prefer another, and that is up to you. @sandy055
@LadyGrace That word you say is His is your choice and preference that that is His only word. Who can limit Him or His words who is the infinite. It is your choice to consider that scripture as the authority. It is not wrong. There are many scriptures and many are His manifestations. I prefer one of them, you are right. Jesus is a son of God. But we believe Jesus is not the only son of God. You choose your preference and we choose ours.
'All paths, different though they seem, ultimately lead to the same God', says one of our sages.
I say that because there is no need for two books. God gave mankind one book....not many. He only needed one Book, which He gave to man, He is very clear on that. His Holy Book.
You say “we” believe. Whom do you refer to? Which faith?
You say you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, but what you don’t say, is that you do not believe that Jesus is the Savior of the world, right?
The Word of God clearly states that there may be many paths to choose from, but only ONE leads to Jesus. There are three verses I can think of, off the top of my head, that confirm that.
1. There’s a way that seems right to man, but the end thereof is death. Meaning...spiritual death.
2. I am THE Way, THE Truth, and THE Life. NO MAN comes to the Father but by Me. That does not speak of many paths. We cannot change God’s Words to suit our perceptions. He sets the standards, not man. He didn’t say I am A way....He said “I am THE way....” All other religions' “founders” were mere men, not God himself. The religions of this world did not die on the cross to pay for our sins.... Only Jesus did.
3. Jesus is the Only Mediator between God and man. In other words, we have no access to God the Father, except through His Son, Jesus. We can twist that all around, but it still comes out the same. One Way to Heaven. Not many. If we don’t believe in what God Himself revealed in His Word, we may as well call Him and His Son a liar, and we know He is without sin and perfect. He cannot lie.
Jesus Himself said to listen to His Words and put NO CONFIDENCE in man. He warns against that.
That verse is just as clear as it can be. You can believe what you wish, but I’m sticking with what God said over ANY other book on the world.
