Brainwashing is bad.

Why is it brainwashing?
Niburu · 51-55, M
@TheWildEcho it's not, they're conflating conditioning with brainwashing
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@Niburu it isn't even conditioning, just giving kids a chance to discover God in their lives. Then it's up to them to either accept or reject Him

@TheWildEcho I see. Do you also believe that children should be able to sign legally binding and contracts?
Fernie · F
@TheWildEcho with threats of hell and damnation if they don't believe???that is crazy talk
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@daisymay what's that got to do with anything? It's about a relationship with God, you don't need a legal contract to have a relationship or friendship
daisymay · 51-55, T
@TheWildEcho You are stating that children have the mental capacity to make an informed decision based on the teachings of their church, their family/community pressures, etc. that will potentially impact the rest of their lives.

I'd say that sounds very similar to a contract. Yet, we don't allow minors to enter into contracts. Why is that?
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@daisymay you could say the same thing about school, they make informed decisions there that affects their future when they decide which subjects to take. Is school brainwashing too? As for the contract bit perhaps you should ask a solicitor

Why don't you take a poll of conservatives on that? We're talking about churches here and whether it's ethical/moral to force children into a belief system by threatening them with eternal damnation (or other heinous punishments), not schools.
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@daisymay I'm not going to take a poll, the fact is that kids go to church and they will continue to do so. There are about 30 kids at my church and they enjoy their activities and the leaders are very loving caring people. No one's going to make it illegal!

@TheWildEcho I didn't say anyone was going to, did I? Bye now!
