Are you sometimes afraid to try prayer, or lack the confidence to pray? [Spirituality & Religion]
Never fear. God understands. You are not the first to feel this way. Especially in the beginning. One must begin by exercising their faith. Then they get stronger and more confident as they go along. Never be afraid to go to God with your prayers. He loves to hear from you, and is actually eager to help you, in any way he can. He waits to hear from you, and if you think he won’t hear you, think again.
Psalm 34:18
The Lord comes unto them that are of a broken heart; and saves such as be of a contrite spirit.
1 Peter 3:12
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
1 Peter 5:7
Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
Hebrews 4:16
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
1 John 3:21
Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God.
Is your faith weak?
Mark 9:24: “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
This honest confession comes from a man whose son was demon-possessed. He wasn’t fully convinced Jesus had the power to deliver his son, but he asked anyway.
This passage debunks two of the greatest misconceptions about prayer—that if we have enough faith, God will answer our prayers, and if we don’t, he won’t. Scripture doesn’t support the idea that great faith produces great miracles and small faith prevents them. Instead, God tells us to ask in faith, believing that he can, and he will answer our prayers in the way he knows is best. Even frightened, tiny, mustard-seed faith, like this father had, can and does move the hand of God.
Bottom line—it’s not how much faith we have that matters, but whom we have faith IN.
One must believe when they pray. Sometimes, that is not so easy, because we also have Satan whispering doubts in our ears, like, “You know God is not going to hear your prayer! Why try?” Or, “You’re wasting your time! God is too busy for you, or to hear your prayer!” Satan will do anything to draw your attention away from God. He does that with everyone. He does not want you getting close to God. However, the only way we will grow in faith, is to actually practice it. You’ll get more confident each time. Could you have been disappointed because God did not answer the way you wanted him to?
Sometimes when God says no, wait, or not yet, it is to save you from heartache down the road, or danger. Whatever the answer, God always has your best interest at heart.
As I listed above, God answers in a number of ways, yet always in your best interest. I like to think of faith as sort of like riding a bicycle for the first time. It’s a little scary at first and your balance is really bad, but as you practice and practice, it gets easier and you get more confident, every time.
