If you can't judge god by human morality, how can you tell god is moral? [Spirituality & Religion]

I mean, he tells you that he's moral. But how can you tell?
Surely you just have to have faith, right?

Celine you will never understand the true answers to all the crazy Christian baiting questions you ask because you deny the existence of God. i believe that God is moral. and he tells us so in his word and in our everyday communion with him. he also tells us man is immoral and looking at the world one can plainly see the truth in that. but you can also see the truth of God's morality if you are willing to look. even an atheist can see that. if they are willing to look. so no it's not all faith.

in my experience attitude is everything. if you come to any situation determined to see the worst you will, but if you come with an open mind you will see so much more.

@Celine you completely ignored 2/3 of my response. you can see the morality of God in mankind just as much if your willing to look instead of focusing only on what you think s immoral.

@Celine
Then give me a good reason. Because right now what you're telling me is that if you believe god is moral then you will see that he is moral.
that is not what i said. here is what i said

@Celine Celine you use man's immorality to say god is immoral, but saying man's goodness does not prove god's morality is hypocritical. they are two sides of the same coin.

@Celine I don't believe in god and bibles, but I like Celine's point. Judging by humanity's morals, god is a major failure, even if he/she says otherwise. You can't have faith that he's moral when he acts so horrifically immoral in the old testament; his own written word contradicts the notion.

@freeb have you read the entire bible? if not then there is no way you can judge. both testaments have explanations of the other. you need to know what it all says rather than picking and choosing bits here and there.

@ladycae You shouldn't assume.

that is why i asked if you had read the whole bible [c=#BF0000]RATHER then assumed [/c]anything.

@ladycae I meant you shouldn't assume the bibles are fact. They're not the written word of god, scholars around the world will tell you this - they are parables and stories passed down, many from days well before Abraham ever came onto the historical scene. They were used to help create a society that all humanity could live under - a code of acceptable behavior so to speak. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

actually, even given your interpretation t all still explains it's self. not to mention you say it is an acceptable code of behavior which contradicts your original statement.

and i still say regardless of whether or not you believe it is the word of god you can't pick and choose parts to prove your point. you can't do that with any written word. you can certainly try but any true scholar knows that things have contextual meaning and must be looked at in that vein. i could no doubt disprove evolution simply picking and choosing parts of Darwin's evolution of the species.
