Is atheism a religion? I was talking to a guy on here who seems to have fled following a claim he made. [Spirituality & Religion]

He seemed to be saying that because atheism is a response to theism/religion, that it is itself a religion.
This is obviously wrong but i was wondering if anyone has more...credible reasons why atheism should be considered a religion.

No. Not even remotely. It's a a lack of faith in any religion or supernatural being.
Ergo it cannot be a belief system.

@Celine It's not even a single belief, it's simply a lack of it.
People think it means believing there is no god and having faith there isn't. That's a gross misunderstanding, it's a lack of belief and faith there is based on having zero tangible evidence to it.

@Celine No, I just don't have any faith there is. The fact is I do not know one way or the other with certainty because a negative cannot be proven. I just cannot find any reason or concept to justify me beleiving in one. I believe it unlikely, but that's because of how much scientific and rational thought has to be completely ignored and rewritten to justify faith in one.

@Celine I don't believe he does or doesn't. Atheism doesn't believe in anything other than there is no evidence.
There is no blind faith belief I should say. In the context being used beleif means blind belief/faith.

@Celine That's semantics. A lack of belief/disbelief is not a belief itself.

Just because one knows the concepts and arguments of god does not change anything. If you have no beleif or a lack of belief you are an atheist. It's that simple. The reason you or don't is because we find no compelling reason.

@Celine Not quite. A nonbelief is not a belief itself. Being unsure is never a belief either.

@Celine No, but that s not a belief itself. You need to get a dictionary and study up if you think it is.

Your logic on it is flawed.

@Celine It's already been stated here. Most likely not. However that doesn't matter. Your position you been trying to defend is that a lack of belief is a belief itself. It's not.

I get it, you like to play silly pseudo-intellectual games for fun. That's fine, however don't get upset that some of us aren't going to fall for them.

@Celine I told you my answer, it doesn't matter that you may not like it. as said I'm not falling for the trick and game.

I'm not making it personal. There was nothing personal or any kind of personal attack there so I really have no idea where you get that from.
