I have often wondered why many religious people are happy to attribute the existence of cotton and woollen materials to the providence of a beneficent Deity but are unwilling to extend that thinking to include polyester and nylon.

It depends on your beliefs, but some say god has given us free will. Thus you could argue free will to apply our scientific knowledge to develop these fibres.

Personally I think it is down to human ingenuity and nothing to do with religion at all.
