I'd escape and expose them.

@CrazyWorld for fame and glory, or because it's the right thing to do?
CrazyWorld · 46-50, M
Because some of these cults are very dangerous. If anything exposing them for fame and glory could be potentially dangerous. Scientologists as I am sure you know have been kidnapped, threatened with death if they try to leave and in numerous cases ex members have vanished.

Sometimes these cults perform mass suicides too, or worse plan terrorist events and other crazy stuff.

Have you read about 'The Watchtower' cult, aka Jehovah's witnesses? Alot of members do not even realise they are part of a cult.

@CrazyWorld no I'd be fascinated to see what Jehovah's witnesses are like behind the scenes. Thanks for the tip!

Actually I know of someone who tried to start a cult based around a particular type of EDM. He used to be a friend of mine in the 90s. Before he started this cult he was stealing power tools from his job and selling them for crack. At that point I stopped speaking to him. He is repeatedly locked away in mental health unit.

A year or so after I stopped speaking to him, he set up a website, recruited people randomly off the street including people I used to call friends. He had a list bizarre rules on the website related to this style of EDM. My friends would tell me about how he would walk up to them and show them spiritual books trying to recruit them. Sometimes he would give books away. His material on the website was copy+pasted from spiritual people like Deepak Chopra. At one point his website had 50 something members. I had nothing to do with him but would keep tabs on the website just in case. At one point I bumped into him locally and just pretended not to know him. That really freaked him out. He actually became quite obsessed with me too after I stopped speaking to him.

Last I heard he was living in a apartment with no electricity as he no longer 'believed in electricity'.

@CrazyWorld that's rough. It's hard when you realise there's nothing you can do for a person.

@CheshireCatalyst Yes it was difficult, and at some point you have to cut ties with such a person or it will affect your own life in a negative way.
