I like Dawkins in that he believes basically what I do, seems to be reasonable if you approach him that way, but if you go off the rails he calls you on it ;)

@CrusaderAztecheart As an atheist, I think what most of us believe is that we have no evidence for a god or higher being. As someone who believes in science, we need proof or evidence before we believe in something.

So its not that we "know" there is no god we just "know" there is no evidence for god.

@CrusaderAztecheart Everything in science is "at the moment", thats kind of the point.

@CrusaderAztecheart I think you are falling into the trap of possibility vs. probability. Is it possible that Jesus was born the son of God from a virgin ... or that Allah is the one true God and Mohammed is his messenger ... or that aliens are being kept in a hanger in Area 51 ... or that Hitler escaped to Argentina ... or that tax cuts for the rich help the poor? It's all POSSIBLE.

But given the evidence, or lack thereof, what is actually PROBABLE?

Ever hear of Occam's Razor? Occam postulated that the proposition that puts forth the fewest assumptions is usually the correct one. In order to believe in God you have to make a LOT of "leaps of faith." To be an atheist requires no such mental gymnastics.
@CrusaderAztecheart "Insurance" ... that is like Pascal's Wager. You can look that up. But you can think of it like the old adds for the lottery.

"You can't win if you don't play." While is is possible to win the lottery the odds are astronomically improbable. It is more correct to say ... If you don't play, you can't lose.

@CrusaderAztecheart You are thinking critically and thast is always an asset. Kudos to you.

I'll leave you with this thought that had served me well. There is much in this universe that I cannot understand, explain or articulate. But that does not prevent me from striving to live up to my potential and to be of service to others. And in doing so, I am at peace with myself.
