Can colored pencils substitute black candles in my spell? [Spirituality & Religion]

I am preparing to caste this break-up spell but, I don't have access to black candles I can burn. Last time I used this spell I used a black crayon to color over the names of both people in the relationship I want to wedge apart. I can't find the crayon box I had before. The original spell requires melting a black candle's wax over the names. Will colored pencils work the same, or do I need actual black wax to cover the names? Any wiccan, or neo-pagan with more experience with this stuff would be greatly appreciated. I'll provide a link to the spell below.
