Yes fear is important when it comes to controlling people. "God loves you, but if you don't love him in return according to these rules then he'll torture you forever !"
LoneKnight · M
@Wraithorn I some cases they themselves torture and kill people in the name of their God.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@LoneKnight Yes, that's because most religions are limiting, divisive and elitist. That makes them useful tools for giving people a clear conscience when killing other Humans.

@Louise Quoting to me from the bible would make zero difference. It is unoriginal, plagiarized and mistranslated. If I quoted to you from "the Lord of the rings" would you believe me when I say it's the word of God ? Of course not.

Why do you avoid the old testament ? Is it maybe because it's ridiculously hypocritical and shows your God acting like a criminal tyrant ?

@Louise We are all products of our childhood Louise. I was brought up by a fire and brimstone Pentecostal preacher who turned out to be a narcissistic psychopath.

That said, the earliest texts which make up the new testament, which are in storage in the Catholic church archives, date back no earlier than the middle of the fourth century. In other words they were written about 350 yrs after the Jesus chap walked the Earth. If indeed he even existed.

If someone wrote a book about your life 350 yrs from now do you think it would be accurate ?

"Our documentary sources of knowledge about the origins of Christianity and its earliest development are chiefly the New Testament Scriptures, the authenticity of which we must, to a great extent, take for granted."
(Catholic Encyclopedia, Farley ed., vol. iii, p. 712)

"the most distinguished body of academic opinion ever assembled" (Catholic Encyclopedias, Preface) admits that the Gospels "do not go back to the first century of the Christian era"
(Catholic Encyclopedia, Farley ed., vol. vi, p. 137, pp. 655-6).

@Louise I don't see a need for us to discuss this any more. I moved past religion yrs ago and have no intention of trying it again.

If there is an all loving creator of this splendid universe then I would love to encounter it one day. We could share a cup of tea and a joint and have a good old chat.

I reject all religious doctrine as man made. None of it is the word of a God. Religious texts are compiled by man in connection with the lives of certain prophets, and man is faulty.

Jesus wasn't a Christian, Mohamed wasn't a Muslim and Buddha wasn't a Buddist.

If being a Christian works for you then that's great but I've moved past that and will never go back.

@Louise Without fault ? Which God do you speak of ? The one from the bible ?
The 2nd commanent says in no uncertain terms that God is jealous. It is general knowledge that jealousy is not only a Human characteristic but a Human fault. This God openly displays a Human fault in his 2nd commandment. Faultless ? I think not. Created by man ? Yes, I think so.

@Louise Well I tell you what, I do give you a bit of credit for not resorting to cursing and insults like a lot of Christians do when forced into a corner.

@Louise let's not overlook the fact the you decided to leave a comment directed at me in reply to my original answer to this question/statement posted by LoneKnight.

You decided to engage with me so I chose to respond. I'm not a hateful person, I was just pointing out that, from my point of view, truth is not to be found in religious doctrine which has been manipulated by man for thousands of years.

Love is good but, like I said, I refuse to love a God who threatens me if I don't.

Namaste. :-)
