Do you believe in God? Why or why not? [Spirituality & Religion]

I was raised Christian, but frankly, I couldn't understand how a "kind" God would let horrible things happen to good and innocent people. I've been an atheist for over 10 years, yet I find myself wondering about religion sometimes.

I can see where you would disagree with those people, but why would you label them as mentally ill? And if they stop believing any of that book, what does that make them? Suddenly not mentally ill?
