Former religious people that became atheist/agnostic, what made you change your mind? [Spirituality & Religion]

That had much to do with me changing my mind. It was a combination, though. Looking around, seeing how the real world didn't correlate with the Bible, seeing the contradictions in the Bible, seeing how real Christians are just people trying to live better lives and attributing their improvements to Jesus. Christianity is just one way of life in a sea of thousands. I refuse to pretend that "Christ" is the reason I'm kind to people. I'm kind to people because I goddamn chose to.

many reasons … hypocrisy … obliging offerings … coercing sex from members' families … organized crime … lies and treachery spawning down from within the highest order … and that's just getting started.

it's fine to believe and promote allegiance to an omnipotent 'n omniscient deity … but we sure as hell don't need congregations 'n organized religions to do so.

still believe in the same god i was brought up with … just choose to worship him in my own private way.

Being buried in the bible for a few years definitely turned me into a heretic, but I still believe in the God of my understanding.

Being told that the Church gets 10% of my income. If there is a God he sure as hell doesn't need money.

Over time, starting as a kid, I discovered more and more things I didn't agree with. The hypocrisy, and not being allowed to question my God and being expected to have totally blind unwavering faith never sat right with me. My religion never felt "right" to me. I didn't agree with how it treated or viewed people.
