Written by Frederick Tobias, Charles Strouse and recorded by The Poni Tails: Toni Cistone (lead vocals), LaVerne Novak (high harmony) and Patti McCabe (low harmony) reaching #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 1958. These girls were thought to be a one hit wonder, but they actually recorded quite a few 45 singles. This one just happened to be their biggest and the one they are remembered for. I have a CD of all their singles. It's out of print, but you still can find it on Ebay from time to time. Haven't checked Amazon, but it might be there.
It was also covered by a group called The Shannons (Liberty Records 45 RPM single 56073 - A-side) and released in October of 1968 and also covered by Jill Jackson (aka Paula of Paul & Paula) (Reprise Records 45 RPM single 0362 - B-side). Produced by Dick & Dee Dee and released in April 1965. Though both versions weren't bad, neither The Shannons' nor Jill's version broke the Billboard Hot 100 chart, though, if they charted at all. Both versions can be found on YouTube.
Just a bit of trivia on the song, for you.

And at least you have an oldies station to listen to that plays music from that era. The one we had here locally changed their format to all Mozart... if you can believe that.

Memories of my mom’s kitchen with the radio playing.
