“Every Beat of My Heart” – Gladys Knight & the Pips

“Every Beat of My Heart” is a doo-wop flavored ballad recorded by Gladys Knight & the Pips in 1961.

The song was written by Johnny Otis and first recorded by the Royals (later known as Hank Ballard & the Midnighters) in 1952. I don’t know how successful their version was, but the one by Gladys Knight & the Pips was a big success, reaching #1 on the US R&B chart and #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was the group’s first hit single.

Also, Gladys Knight was born in Atlanta 80 years ago today. Happy birthday to Ms. Knight.

@Coldplay I agree. It's a great performance. As for Gladys Knight, Rolling Stone has included her of their list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. She totally deserves to be on the list.
