"Basin Street Blues" – Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five

[media=https://youtu.be/Yy2zkftILrI]
On this day in 1928, Louis Armstrong made the first recording of "Basin Street Blues".

The song was written by jazz composer, pianist, and singer Spencer Williams. It is considered one of the masterpieces of early jazz.

Armstrong recorded a slightly different version in 1933. It's also very good, but I like the original recording a little better.

I’m getting goosebumps as I listen to this masterpiece…🥴 What a precious piece of history you’ve shared for us, Pah…😻 I don’t know where you find these rare gems…but certainly hope you’ve uploaded them on your channel so that it’s there forever… 🎺 🎼

@Vivaci It really is a masterpiece. Very glad you appreciate it, Miz. 🤗

Haven't really thought about uploading anything other than the videos I've edited. I'd somehow feel like I was stealing other people's videos if I posted them unaltered on my channel.
It is indeed…I wish we could see more of those melodic and harmonic improvisations in today’s music….it’s soft, subtle, and anything but rushed…. Love that slow tempo…and Mr Armstrong just scoobeedeebaba nailed it… @Rutterman

Idk…you could add some bits in the beginning and end and Save this song… I mean I look back at your old posts and hate to see broken links …js…🙁

@Vivaci I think you just nailed it with your comments.

Yeah, that does suck when the video I've posted here isn't available anymore. My biggest regret related to this is not downloading a YouTube video that I considered to be the greatest video ever made. It featured music by Philip Glass and the clips in the video were absolute perfection. I posted it here a long time ago, but either the video was deleted on YouTube, or the account of the one who uploaded it was deleted. I've looked several times to see if it's been re-posted on YT, but no such luck. 😕
🥰😘

Yes, you’ve mentioned this a few times before and I wish I had listened to it…So I hope you save this one…😞🤞🏼@Rutterman
