“Low Rider” (1975) – War

This is one of my favorite songs by the funk-soul/Latin jazz-rock band, War. I like the song’s driving bass-line and heavy percussion, but what I especially like is the memorable deep-voiced vocal by band member Charles Miller, who was also the primary composer of “Low Rider”.

A word about Charles Miller. In addition to singing, the Olathe, Kansas native was a talented musician who played a variety of woodwind and percussion instruments, piano, and guitar. He performed with several groups, including the Ray Charles Band, prior to the formation of War in 1969. Sadly, the married father of four was killed in a street robbery in Los Angeles in 1980. No one has ever been arrested or prosecuted for his murder. Charles Miller was 41 at the time of his death.

I have "The Best Of War," love them❣💃🎶 That's horrible when these murders go unsolved.😢

@Peaches It is an awful shame when these cases go unsolved. They are re-opening a lot of cold cases these days and solving them. It would be great if they re-opened this one, if they haven't already.

@Rutterman Yes it would.😕⚰💔🎵

So sad about Charles Miller. I didn't know that, but I've always liked this song. I hope they open the cold case and solve it.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@ChampagneOnIce Yes, I hope so too. His family must want that as well.

How do you know so much about music? :O
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Selah I grew up listening to oldies radio stations and lived for a time with an uncle who was totally into classic pop and rock. Also, I do a little research for most of my music posts. This story is one example. I didn't know Charles Miller had been murdered until I learned about it through research for this post.
