I think the hardest point of reality struck home for me when I too was visiting some old acquaintances at a long term care facility and the songs that were playing were also written in 1979, the same year 'Sad Eye's' was written.
Where it hit home for me was in realizing that those old acquaintances of mine were only 35 years old and running wild and free when Sad Eye's and others from that same year, had first hit the radio's top 10 billboard hits.

I got to know those folks very well who I'm referring to, despite our age difference of 50 years in most cases. Yet through my work where they were directly involved at a time, I became 'one' with them as if I had lived in that same era with them during the 1970's. It was very hard to watch their slow but steady decline into a 'someone' they never saw coming.
