Prince ~ Nothing Compares 2 U

Oh media, I love modern media and lack of depth in meaning. I loved both Prince and Sinead, and this isn't to measure the depths of emotions conveyed in a song, I love how they took the same meanings, one managed to find a bittersweet song, as his was a celebration of love even though sad, and her's was of a lost love never to be repaired where she will forever be forsaken. It's beautiful how the same words, strung together by different emotions, played out in voice and instruments, changes the renditions so intimately.

I loved both Prince's and Sinead's versions of this song. Both convey so much emotion. I prefer Prince's version myself. As you say, a celebration of love , but, sad. Sinead to me was a modern Joan of Arc of sorts. I loved her music. But, Prince and his music has always conveyed many different emotions for me. Happiness, love, sadness.....🙏

I agree with you on modern media and lack of depth in meaning. Thank you for posting Prince's wonderful version! Here's to the Purple One....💜

@SW-User Well stated, and I love the comparisons with Joan of Arc to Sinead. Probably true, though I never thought of her that way. 🙏 I was feeling on the song itself, alone, and Prince truly did bring in those qualities of happiness, love, and sadness together. And I was also feeling we are a menace to ourselves, and he got it right here, with expressing his love, happiness, how it came to an end and sad, but would celebrate he held that love.

I only added the modern media part.... because out of 4 articles I saw upon Sinead's death, all including her version of this song, only one mentioned Prince. If I were to celebrate an artist, I'd celebrate their influences, too. 💜

@SW-User That's kinda the way I've looked at Sinead.....modern Joan of Arc.....she took up so many causes to fight for.

Well stated about Prince in your response also. He knew how to convey true emotions when writing songs and performing them. I will always love Prince. I noticed that myself about articles I read about her death..... Prince was only mentioned in one. I would definitely celebrate their influences for sure. They noted other artists that Sinead inspired.....why not note the ones that inspired Sinead? Doesn't make sense.....but, that's media for you! ☺️

@SW-User They didn't do their research is the honest summary of that. They are put into position to write as journalists, often not for what they hold passion for, and it comes out in the articles....

@SW-User Just let me add that the video footage of Prince's version you shared was bittersweet and amazing at best. I've never seen that! ☺️

@SW-User Aww, it was released after her version. He wrote it. Never released it, and somehow it got shared with her... It is oh so very bittersweet, his version, that even the 12 year old boy who loved Sinead's version, me, feels he got it right first try. ☺️
