Anyone else shut down whenever the topic of conversation moves to something you deem too intelligent?

I'm going to be honest I'm not an academic nor did I do fabulous in school nor finish it. With that being said I tend to shut down and quit talking when the conversation turns into knowledge dump nerd fest. I couldn't tell you my opinion on some science thing because I have no idea what that thing even is. I don't know what some political thing means or is so I can't say anything because I don't understand half the words being used in it. To this day I don't understand the letters I get sent to me about insurance or financial stuff no matter how many times i read them over. I usually have to ask someone else to tell me what it means. The whole thing derails once I stumble on a word I don't know or a topic I don't understand or an idea or concept I don't understand. I've always been on the slower side of getting things to stick in my brain. Probably why I wasn't the best in school because it took me longer to process and understand somethings. maybe I have a learning disability who the hell knows.

You don’t have to pretend to know. Just listen if others are talking about and maybe learn a few things that way.
@cherokeepatti Exactly what I was going to say. One of my Grandfather's favorite saying was that we have two ears and only one mouth, because listening is more important than talking.

You seem smart by the way you write.

@SW-User English and writing was my best subject in school. Math and science was where i struggled especially with science
@buriedalive science really isn't about intelligence, I would guess you probably didn't have teachers who resonated with you
