Joys of being a volunteer firefighter

Getting paged out at 2am to a fire alarm activation that ends up being a faulty sensor. Now go back to sleep 🙄
Hey, steam and moisture affect detectors.!I know from experience. So do cockroaches that get into detectors and break the beam in the detectors!
Beats seeing a “ sunrise”
In the distance at 2am! Stay safe brother!!
@TheotherAndy so is this…

You and your cadre across the nation and the world play a very LARGE role in maintaining the safety and well-being of human beings. Similar to enlisting in the military, we do it for a greater good....and a better world, so bravo zulu to you.

Whats the on-call difference between a volunteer and a full time firefighter?
TheotherAndy · 41-45, M
Full time or career firefighters usually work shifts and are in the station during their hours like a regular job.

Volunteers usually carry pagers and go when there is a call coming in, and we go for training regularly LOL@Funkyfreakshow

@TheotherAndy Cool! Thanks for the insight! Does Canada have a civil service exam you need to pass like in the US to become a firefighter?
@Funkyfreakshow there are a number of them ( differences)outside of actually dealing with the myriad of emergencies both volunteers and paid/on call firefighters deal with.
thank you for your unselfish service to your community 🧑‍🚒
aaaaw mannnn f...........k least every one safe but f..k

How nice that you do that
Does your county/area forbid you to speed to a fire, or have emergency lights of any kind?
Heard some jurisdictions restrict this.

False alarm drags you out. Good thing it wasn’t serious. Sorry you were up and down.
Why do you volunteer ?
TheotherAndy · 41-45, M
It’s a volunteer department so I guess someone has to, might as well be me lol. I like being a part of that, helping the community @Spoiledbrat

@Spoiledbrat because in rural areas that’s all you have. It’s a generational tradition as well, I was 4 th generation volunteer firefighter. It gets in your blood and what you were raised to do

That’s really great
