I Am a Volunteer Firefighter
I love what I do and the great impact that it has. At the seasonal Daffodil Festival we have in our county at the courthouse which is 2 days out of the year in the spring. We had a booth set out in front of our fire station which is called Station 1. We had all of our doors opened into the engine bay where we keep all of our fire trucks and rescue trucks. We made sure to have some free goodies like stress balls and cups that change color with temperature and we had shirts for sell for $10 each for all sizes. Those funds are used to help keep our department running efficiently and effectively. We had sold over $1,000 worth of shirts and I was shocked! We also had a boot that we used for donations to be put in and it surprised me just how many kids donated money, of course the adults did as well but the thing that made me remember all of this was just how appreciative they were of our services to our community. It truly means a lot to know we have the towns support and how they want to help us out in anyway that possibly can. Probably not a lot of people understand just how much a “thank you for your sacrifice y’all make for us” means let alone having young kids say that as well as donating their very limited funds to help us. I’m pretty sure mostly all firefighters could agree with me, volunteer or not. We take those risks because we want you to live a happy life and knowing you have someone you can always count on to be there for you when you need it most. Stay safe and know you will always have someone who has got your back. We are not only here to fight fires and rescue you from situations but to be a friend as well who does not judge for any reasons no matter what it is. I mean it. Thank you for y’alls support.
