I Am a Volunteer Firefighter

My first call to an MVA involved an older Asian couple. The accident was not bad, as far as accidents go, some minor injuries but shock and fear can be deadly sometimes. The male driver was ok but his wife could not get out of the vehicle on her own. Some extrication was required and there was no doubt, she was feeling a lot of discomfort. My job was to crawl inside the vehicle and hold c-spine and cover and comfort the lady until she could be taken from the vehicle.
She did not speak a word of English and was very upset. I had a fear and feeling of grief in that I did not know how I would be able to comfort her if we couldn't communicate, I couldn't explain what what happening to ease her mind a little. But as soon as my hands were holding her neck and helping to stabilize and place the collar, and I was able to speak with a calm tone, even if she didn't know what I was saying, I felt her body relax and her screaming and panic eased off.
My first call to an MVA and I knew I had found my calling.
