We Must Understand That We Can’t Demand Understanding

I am often misunderstood.
I don’t really enjoy the feeling but I do understand how it happens.

For me it’s all good though.
I try not to take any of it personally. Mostly because I know that in some ways we’re all misunderstood.

For the most part I attempt to operate in ways that tell myself that everyone is either trying to come from a place of kindness and/or respect, or is perhaps struggling with something inside themselves that prevents them from understanding.

Of course, I also understand that there are those people who are simply too caught up in themselves to grant anyone any respect at all no matter who they are.

That all said, I wish you a day marked by interactions that make you feel seen, heard, and understood.

Be well,
Rob

@Rickichickie thank you for your reply here and your time.

Judgement is definitely easier. So easy in fact that for many it just happens automatically before any understanding even has a chance.

Everything looks different to each of us. That too is very true.

I try to keep these things in mind whenever I encounter people who don’t seem to be grasping me.

You express in a succinct understandable way, me thinks. I've always thought so. ☺
Some use too much verbiage and things just get lost in translation. They lose the simplicity. Less is more.

I rather think, if someone truly wants to understand us they will make the effort, otherwise they will rely on whatever their imagination tells them.

@Magenta thank you very much. You’ve always been quick to understand most of the things I’ve tried to say along the years and I appreciate that.

And you…, I appreciate you!
As the saying goes…”we don’t see things as they are. We see things as we are.”

People may have a limited understanding of the people and situations around them, not because they don’t want to, but because their views are limited by what they have experienced.

We can’t expect understanding. We can appreciate when we feel heard. But we should live life extending that understanding of other people’s limitations.

@CookieCrumbs I haven’t had much time today at all, but work is over and I don’t have to do anything now until 6;45 pm. I thought this would be a good time to reply…

Perception makes up all of our realities. Though not all of share the same perception. Everything we see, hear or take in from our externalities is constantly shifting and adjusting our perceptions.

I try to keep an open mind, even if I’m not always great at it.

When it comes to understanding others, as I said: I try to assume they’re trying to come from a positive place, or a space that’s important to them on a personal level. I do my best to discount any negative thoughts that I might have as to where they’re coming from.

Often times this goes against my initial perceptions of how the world works or should work.

With these mindsets all playing off of each other I think I do a good job of at least trying to grant almost everyone a decent level of understanding.

Beautiful said. You see the world around you in a positive light, looking for what’s good. Don’t lose this part of you.
