I don’t understand why there is so much angst about the southern border and not as much about the northern one

The people of the US have more in common with their southern neighbours than they do with their northern ones.

@Ghostinthemachine I'm in Tennessee now. This place isn't noted for it's Maple syrup. I used to get myself about 10 Gallons of Maple syrup a year. The smell of it reducing is amazing
