People try to hurt others when they are hurting themselves

And I get it. I understand it. It's why I promised that no matter what happens in my own future that I won't allow myself to get bitter and hurt others because of my own pain anymore.

I think after a certain low in our self esteem and self worth, we turn bitter because we have no love left for ourselves.
It's not much of a choice at that point.
Met plenty of people like that. They are trapped there and all you can do is avoid them.
