I'll never understand people who complain about being forced to stay on the clock when there is nothing for them to do.

Legit, I don't like being lazy at work or standing around doing nothing when there is work that needs to be done. I don't milk the clock either. However if my employer wants me to stay on the clock knowing I have nothing to do and just going to be a present body? I'm all for that money for nothing. People who get upset about that boggle my mind.

Personally, I like it so long as I'm allowed to do something non-worky. Back in my lifeguard days, I could sit around and chat with my coworkers when there was nothing to do. Here in the office, I feel like I'm doing something wrong if I open up a wiki tab, and my computer's in a really viewable spot. Maybe it's just 'cause I have a cushier job than you do, but I find the boredom of doing nothing way worse than the effort needed to do tasks.

@BlueVeins type of work might be a part of it. Being manual and skilled physical labor, the rare break from it might be the reason it's like whatever. Granted the time still drags and I am desperately looking for a broom to push. Also there's always something to play with around the shop for time passing.

@BlueVeins I think working in a retail shop with no customers would be the most painfully boring job to me. Especially if they want you to stand there at attention.

I would rather do something and pass the time than literally sit there like a dumb ass doing nothing.

@DeluxedEdition Oh absolutely. Just sayin', if it is insisted I stay and get paid knowing that is what I am going to be doing and they are okay with it. Get me my hours babe.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@MethDozer Hey, everybody is different. I'm a busy body. Somebody at work told me once they almost didn't recognize me because I was being still. Ha ha. That's a good way to look at it. 🙂

@DeluxedEdition 100%. I am kinda the same way. However, if you're going to pay me with the expectation of accomplishing nothing? I will find a hobbie or whatever to keel my mind occupied.

Picture this. You like knitting, if I am going to pay you for zero work productivity, yet you can knit for yourself while on the on the clock.... would you complain about $25 an hour to do it here rather than knit for $0 an hour at home? That's what I mean
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I guess they really hate their job or time is more valuable to them.

@JimboSaturn
time is more valuable to them.
for me it's this. send me home if there's no work. I have kids and side businesses I could be tending to
Doesn't bother me at all. Ill stand here and soak up the sunshine like an old lizard.

Sitting there doing nothing makes the shift go slower
MethDozer · M
@Rolexeo no doubt it does.

I spend a lot of my job reading magazines. No one cares.

I do the work that I need to do, but there simply isn't enough work to fill all the hours I'm required to work most days. Everyone I work with knows this is true, so one gives me shit for reading or whatever when there's nothing else to do. 🤷‍♂️

I guess my point is some coworkers give the impression they come to work for he love of working as opposed to get a paycheck and that blows my mind.
