Rebuilding Trust

We tried to look back
To see
To understand
How it all derailed

Where once there was happiness
Now pain
A deep emptiness
Longing to know why

It seems to me that time
Changes us
Rearranges our priorities
Not always for the good

Somehow we let something in
Completely unaware
How it would grow
Hedging in resentments

And now it seems
With Rusty tools in hand
It is now time
We rebuild some of what we lost
