Gotta ask: what's the point of trolls? What do they get by wasting their time and energy so they'd waste someone else's? Attention seeking much?

Ok, I get that it's the internet, everyone loves a good joke and so (tho most of theirs aren't good but I digress) but what's the point of going out of your way just to make someone spend time and energy on you, resulting in nothing? Because really, no one gets anything out of this. Is it for attention, do they feel somehow better, cleverer, like they're more important? Like saying "I'm right and you're wrong because I tricked you"?

1. Attention seeking- because they need to have it , because no one notices them in real life and they force you to give them that attention online so they resort to tactics that elicit a response from you.
2. They thrive on making people feel bad because they are miserable in their lives and want others to suffer too.
3. There might be some who do it for some weird masochistic reason knowing there will be an angry response and insults thrown their way for behaving like they do and they actually like it.

I used to troll a lot when I was younger. I think it is sort of a power thing, being able to control someone else's emotions by making them angry without them being able to control yours. It can also be artistically engaging, depending on the methodology used.

@BlueVeins No offence but that's both lame and disrespectful. And look where it brought you!
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Melpomene Yeah, I never said I was a saint. 🤷‍♂️ You asked me for an explanation of a behavior so I gave one.

@BlueVeins You said you used to enjoy that. *nods to your post

@jshm2 yep 👆
@jshm2 Trolls make themselves known. That’s their point, to attract the attention of others. For all the atheists you may know about, there are plenty you don’t, because most don’t want or need attention. They just want to live their lives without being bothered by religious fanatics knocking on their doors or stopping them on streets proselytizing. Theists are much more troll-like in that regard.

look up 'dark tetrad'

@pknein Oh.

Attention.. they get someones attention..

Also they interpret their success at trolling you as a sign of superiority over you..

Like I am superior and you are inferior because i manipulated you and deceived you..
Lostpoet · M
I think for me anyways we are just looking for an escape from our lives.
Melpomene · 22-25, F
@Lostpoet Do you get it?
Lostpoet · M
@Melpomene Sometimes I can spend a whole day on here. I usually try to keep my troll answers and my genuine answers 50/50.

But I wouldn't say I'm an evil troll 🤔 just an annoying one.
IrishFellaShaney · 41-45, M
There's always going to be trolls, and trolls love these type of posts btw so you're prob amusing them
SW-User
They enjoy being annoying and upsetting others, that's basically about it.

I don't get it either and it doesn't help that people on SW encourage it because they love carnage and animosity. They look pathetic and are most likely have a miserable life, it's it attention seeking I just pity them.
Melpomene · 22-25, F
@Chickie Ikr? It's like middle school
Then why do you do it?
Bang5luts · M
I'm not sure. Probably is a way of compensating for them being smaller in some other aspect of their life or for their feelings of inadequacy in some other area of their life.

It is difficult to understand the motives behind people's irrational behavior at times.

You get to see that your comment fulfilled your intention.
Melpomene · 22-25, F
@caccoon Yes but you can also get that when you help, uplift or cheer up someone.
caccoon · 36-40
@Melpomene I agree, the intent is just different.
Lilnonames · F
They are laughing. When u have no life or friends it's the next best thing
Melpomene · 22-25, F
@Lilnonames What's so funny?
I had times without both and I can still name bunch of things that are better and less lame.
Lilnonames · F
@Melpomene but most trolls are men
