Many communities put value on seeming like you care.
Not on actually caring.
They are shallow ritualistic repetitive sentences devoid of committment.
And that attracts people who compete on preforming empathy. So many of them.
One stands in particular, it happened to someone else. I have always felt resentful when I saw her looming around the person. But I didn't want to say anything about it because ultimately it is not healthy to gossip. Unfortunately, what I predicted did happen eventually. The performer builds the social circle and then discards the one they pretended to care about.
Personally, many times I have shared something online, important to me or personal, and some random person I never interacted with pretends to empathize and to know what I'm dealing with, when they have never ever invested any time or efforts doing so.
They pretend to be familiar.
Acting like they know me somehow just to fit in and be visible.
To me it signals predation.
I am not consenting to you using my content to appear a certain way. That is not why I said what I said. And who are you?
On the other hand, if people aren't given any chance to engage depth, they won't bother developing it anyways.
So every time I shut down an attempt, I risk working towards encouraging the behavior itself. Among the many ill-meaning freaks, there are always a few who act out of love. Not love towards the OP, just love in general. Humans need to be giving. Even shitty humans need that.
