I don't see how they can do this without country specific permissions.

Just try to get China to agree to anything on their social media accounts! Just try!

They would rather hack you and your age verification.

I can see it now Tiktok kids getting adult status verification, compliments of China! 🤣

@DeWayfarer They mean within EU states, though it will be very difficult to apply.

Instgead of sneering though, it might be more constructive to consider why so many countries are bringing in all these policies. To consider, perhaps, that they genuinely are worried by the attitudes and actions of the publishers of the harmful material - the handful of men who own the major social[?}-media sites and ignore their responsibilities as publishers.

Absolutely fucking not. 🖕🏻 The only institutions I am willing to provide my ID to are the governmental ones and the banks I use. Social media sites have absolutely no business to have a photo of my ID.

i think the whole Internet needs that for accountability reasons

This sounds like more mass control/surveillance disguised as child protection.

@Rabscuttle ok I'll bite.

First time for what?
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@TheHammer It may seem so to you, but not to me at all. I can't see how it could be.

Besides, using Facebook, X and TikTok is not compulsory. More to the point, neither is the nasty or even just addictive stuff the sites' owners allow as publishers, and which is the target for these intended regulations.

Well my good sir, with all due respect I'm going to have to hit the big X buzzard of you're wrong on that one.
It even has a name.

Technological lock-in.

Once a technology becomes part of our lives and institutions, like banks or hospitals, not participating in such technologies becomes almost impossible.
You used the internet to write that comment. Are you saying that using the internet today is not compulsory??
