EU Parliament revives ChatControl for thursday vote

The EU Parliament rejected mass scanning of private messages in March. Yesterday, it approved an urgent procedure to revive the measure, setting up a decisive vote on Thursday, the last sitting day before summer recess.

Keep in mind Chat Control 1.0 was already in place until it expired in March 2026. Chat Control 2.0 is the more worrying one, where they planned to circumvent end to end encryption with client side scanning and add age (read: ID) verification for messengers and email accounts. Chat Control 1.0 was only for scanning of non-encrypted messages (e.g. Instagram DMs, but not WhatsApp) which you should never treat as private in the first place.

I think the main scandal here is how the EU Commission completely disregard the multiple votes of the EU parliament against it and make them vote again and again and they get what they want.

The second main scandal is that POLITICIANS WILL BE EXEMPT OF THIS SURVEILLANCE.
