Serious question.
Can someone tell me how algorithms work? Do they target my IP Address, or do they target me personally when I'm online. I understand the targeting by my IP Address, but how do they know it's me when I'm on my work computer?

Lots of ways. If something is free you are the product. Meaning your behaviour and interactions on those sites creates an algorithm that then sends you targeted marketing mostly but sometimes is used for more sinister things.
