Really · 80-89, M
Decades ago there was a fad for ordinary names spelled backwards. I actually knew someone called Senga.

@Really Senga is a Scottish name that is derived from the Gaelic word for slender, it has nothing to do with the name Agnes, that's just a coincidence.

@AntisocialTroll I am from Scotland but I know almost no Gaelic. In Glasgow in the 50s (?) I remember the brief fad for backward-spelled names and I doubt that the Senga I knew had parents who had knowledge of the ancient language (If they did, my contemporaries would have called them Teuchters :) ), but I could be wrong. Thanks for the information.

@Really Senga has been a Scottish name since way before the 50's, I promise it's a name in it's own right with zero connection to Agnes except for the same letters being used for both.
Really · 80-89, M
I see that Senga is now a fairly popular name in Scotland, but also has derogatory connotations (like Karen is now attracting in the US). Meantime close to my Canadian home is a resort called Tigh na mara: They're everywhere!

@AntisocialTroll Notwithstanding its traditional use, I can assure you that some people have used Senga in 'connection to Agnes' and in ignorance of its Gaelic usage.
