I Believe People Come Into Your Life For a Reason

I think I still believe that, at any rate. It's comforting to place faith in the thought that there is something more behind the interactions we share with those most important in our lives than just some unlikely series of random events.

I used to think that the important thing was to divine what that "reason" might be. To understand the "purpose"; to know the "why" of lives intersecting when the connection even existing in the first place seems so improbable; to let that "purpose" inform one's actions... to bring good to the other.

While I still think there is truth to that, I'm starting to believe that the truly important thing is to realize when that "purpose", insofar as there is one, has been accomplished. When one has done that which they were "meant" to do... or at least when one has done all that they can do. To know when it's time to fade gently and lovingly into that someone's "past" and simply take joy in the knowledge that their life has been made a little better in some way.

It's harder than it sounds.
