I Succumbed to Peer Pressure

Why?
Why did I do what I didn’t feel right about doing?
To please you?
Why am I such a coward to say no?
To be as the brave ones of centuries past who faced tremendous consequences for shaking their heads NO and being different, for refusing to be stigmatized, objectified, and used for mechanical purposes?
It is fear.
What are our fears?
When we fall to peer pressure we fear being outcast or people talking negative behind our backs, but people do it anyways, even when you attempt to please them, it’s a lost cause.
We fear being fired and homeless.
We fear pain from getting beat up, we fear ridicule, we fear becoming dependent and a burden in a world where no one wants to inconvenience themselves with yet another person besides the ones they’ve picked from the bunch.
And the ultimate fear, we fear death.
That is why, that is why I nodded my head instead of shaking it as I actually wanted to.
Being nice and sweet gets you nowhere but being walked over.
Finding the balance between apathy and empathy is not an easy task in order to make it in this world.
