I'm with Pink on this as I've stated below. Please also keep in mind that birth rates are declining world wide. The UN estimates that world population will peak mid-21st century at about 9 billion people and then start to decline. Affluence impacts this trend as people have less children as their standard of living increases, and standards of living are increasing world wide.
Many countries, China included, are going to have problems in the future by having a lack of people. That one child policy is going to bite China in the ass. First, couples have aborted many female babies, so there will be a surplus of men with not enough women. Secondly, the younger generation will have to support a much larger population of older people. Demographic trends have enormous impact and just having less kids either by choice or mandated by law is not a trivial exercise.
